May Stitch Fix Review

It’s Stitch Fix time once again! There are 2 items that I’m still undecided about at this time and I’d love any input you can offer!

Last year I decided to join Stitch Fix for a number of reasons. Mostly because I don’t like shopping (but I loooooove cute clothes) and I tend to be a hard size to shop for. If you are a difficult size, too, I know you get me on this. Grrrr, isn’t it so frustrating when you are trying to shop and nothing fits – no wonder I dislike shopping so much!

Anyway,  I got rid of 95% of my closet and decided from here on out, I’m only keeping a minimal amount of pieces, ones that I absolutely love and are a 10 out of 10 for me. I’ve been using Stitch Fix to build my seasonal wardrobes and it’s been a blast! Having a personal stylist shop for me and then getting a surprise package in the mail…and the stuff actually fits?! What a fun treat it has been over the past year! Plus I haven’t had to go shopping or set foot in a mall at all!  Woo 🙂

What is Stitch Fix?

If you are wondering what in the heck is Stitch Fix, let me tell you! With Stitch Fix, you get a surprise box complete with 5 handpicked clothing and/or accessories picked out just for you from your very own personal stylist.  You get to keep only what you want (for me it has to be a 10 out of 10!) and you can send back whatever you don’t want in the postage paid envelope. You can schedule a Fix whenever you want – no monthly commitments or anything like that.  For those wondering about the cost, it is affordable. The clothes are definitely more expensive than Target, but about equal to what you would expect at a department store.

If you’d like to learn more about Stitch Fix or sign up for your very own Fix, you can click HERE. I’ve been a huge fan of this service for almost a year now.

May Stitch Fix

My May Fix showed up and I could tell it was going to be a good one right out of the box. Look at all those pretty colors 🙂

So let’s take a closer look! Here’s what was in my May Fix….

Skies are Blue Topanga Crochet Detail Flutter Sleeve Blouse

I saw this top on Pinterest and immediately fell in love. The fun, flirty flutter sleeves and the adorable crochet detailing were details that I absolutely adored and were totally my style.

I thought this top would be the perfect staple piece to add to my spring and summer closet so I pinned it. I’m so glad my stylist decided to send it to me! I think it would look so cute with any color jeans/pants and would also look great dressed up a bit more and paired with a skirt.

VERDICT: KEEPING! LOVE!

Kut From The Kloth Siena Capri Pant

I have to admit, when I first opened up my box and saw that these were capris, I was disappointed. I definitely love the coral color (one of my favs!), but I am a petite pear shape. Capris just aren’t flattering for that combination, or at least not for me. But Stitch Fix always recommends you try everything on, even if you don’t think you’ll like it. So I did. And I was pleasantly surprised.

They fit me kind of like ankle pants, not capris. I thought the looser, more relaxed fit made my thighs and backside look slimmer, too (woo!). And they are so lightweight! Plus this coral color goes with a lot in my closet – navy, blues, yellows look so good with it. In fact, my stylist recommended these capris for every top that she sent in this Fix! And to my surprise, they really did work with each one.

I really like these pants, but am questioning the length since they are technically supposed to be capris. Do they look like a weird length, like my pants are too short? Or can I get away with this? Thanks for any opinions you can give – I really appreciate it 🙂

VERDICT ON PANTS: Undecided! Help!

Olive & Oak Arynn Tie-Back Chevron Print Tank

A little confession: I always peek at my Fix before I actually get it. You see, when Stitch Fix emails you to let you know your package shipped, you can do a little detective work. With the help of google, you can peek at what you are going to get. I know, I know!  That totally ruins the surprise, but I can’t help it – the suspense just kills me.  Everytime I get sent the Stitch Fix shipped email, I tell myself not to peek, but I always end up peeking. The struggle is real 🙂

Anyway, I saw that I was getting a chevron shirt and my first reaction was, “ugh, chevron. I am so over chevron.”  But then I got it in person, and wouldn’t you know, it ended up being my favorite piece out of the Fix at first glance.  I was totally drawn to the bright, refreshing colors and thought it was absolutely adorable, chevron and all.  I don’t like heavy fabrics so the lightweight fabric of this shirt was so nice! Because it’s so lightweight, it would be perfect for hot summer days.

My stylist suggested pairing it with the coral capris she sent. It is definitely a cute outfit, but I couldn’t help thinking that it might look even better with the white denim I got from my last August Fix.

As adorable as this shirt is, I really don’t think it’s a quite a 10 for me. Maybe a 9, which makes it a tough decision. I keep going back and forth whether I want to keep it or not, which should be my sign to let it go – it’s obviously not a 10, right? Bummer! I might regret sending this fun, colorful summer top back, but it just seems a bit too flowy/shapeless for me.

VERDICT: Still a bit undecided, but am really leaning towards sending it back. Should I change my mind?

Daniel Rainn Hal Crew Neck Blouse

This was my husband’s favorite piece from the Fix. I loved it, too. The bright blue was such a pretty and flattering color. But it was too big, especially around the arm holes. Plus I already received a top very similar from Stitch Fix last winter, which I adore:

I don’t need 2 blue spring/summer tops that basically serve the same purpose. I was so happy to see that this bright blue and coral pair so nicely together though. What a pretty color combination, right?! If I keep the coral pants, I’m happy to know that I can pair my already owned Stitch Fix shirt with the coral capris!

VERDICT: SENDING BACK

Collective Concepts Tori Scoop Neck Blouse

When I first saw this top, I wasn’t a fan. I didn’t care for the pattern and it’s not really my style at all. I think it would probably be super cute on some people that maybe have that boho vibe going on, but it’s just not me. I tried it on, regardless, but it didn’t get any better.  This one is an easy decision— sending back!

VERDICT: SENDING BACK

Well, that’s it for this time around! I really love the flutter sleeve shirt and now just have to decide about the coral “capris” and chevron top. I’d be so grateful for any input! You guys always help me out so much and I am so grateful for you!

How do you use google to peek? I want to know!!!

    • Primally Inspired

Yes, yes! And I feel a little bad about ruining it for you, but I’ll tell you anyway lol 🙂 When you get the “Your Fix Is On It’s Way” email, click on the checkout survey link and all your item names will be right there! Just google them and 95% of the time, you’ll be able to find examples of what you got. But learn from my mistake and reserve judgement until it gets to you. Because a lot of times, you’ll get a different color or a different print than what shows up on google. Happy SF peeking! And I’m kinda sorry about ruining the surprise for you 🙂

Hi, How can I pin these to my pinterest page?
The PIN icon doesn’t appear like some of the others on your blog…Thanks for your help and love all the photos

Ooh keep them both!! The trousers are a great fit, length and colour, especially if they already go with lots of things in your wardrobe. And the chevron top is my favourite thing in the whole fix. The pattern and flowing shape hide any pearshaped ness (which I totally can’t see btw) and colour is great.

I think the coral pants look nice and you already have the perfect belt to go with. I also like the chevron top. It’s ok with white but I like it more with the coral pants.

I am a definite YES for the coral pants and a “meh” on the chevron top – doesn’t sound like it is quite a 10 for you either. I came into quite a few pairs of pants this length given to me from a friend who is quite a bit shorter than me. For her, they were full length so I too wasn’t quite sure about the length. As it turns out they are amazingly useful. They look fantastic on you and the color will be great with your other T1 clothing. They don’t look as though they are supposed to be capris if that is what you are worried about. It’s a cute look for the warmer weather. My pants this length are heavier in weight so I even used them in the winter sometimes when I was dying for some color. I just put warm wool socks up over the ankle and wore them with boots! So YES YES YES from me to the pants (in case I wasn’t clear about that lol).

    • Primally Inspired

hahaha! Loved reading your feedback, Ramona! Thank you for the reassurance about the length of the pants, too – very helpful to me! And you are brilliant about still using your capris for the winter – I am so going to do that!

Definitely keep the pants!! Love them! I really like the chevron shirt with them, too. The white shirt is great, too!!

  7. Avatar

Keep the capris, I got them in a different color and they are so comfy! Mine fit like yours do but it works

  8. Avatar

I love the chevron top on you. It fit great and looks cool and comfy. The coral pants look great also. For those to be capris you would have to be 6 ft. tall.

  9. Avatar

NO to the Chevron! Esp with the white pants. imho. Love the blue lacy top as well as the scoop neck pattern top you are sendng back. It would look good with jeans or blue shorts, just not those capris.
    Have fun!

Love the coral pants! Keep, keep!
If you are going to follow the DYT Type 1 slant on clothing (which you usually look fabulous in T1!), I’d get rid of the chevron top. Although the colors are T1, the angles and the boldness of it make it lean T3. If you are a T1 with a secondary 3, go for it! Otherwise, I’d ditch it. 🙂

    • Primally Inspired

Love your comment, Stacey! It’s so fun to get feedback from other DYT-ers who understand all that 🙂 I am not a 1/3 and agree that it doesn’t seem to work quite as well because of all the harsh angles. Thank you so much for your input!

Keep those coral pants…length is like an ankle pant, better than a Capri…hits you in a better place and dressier, if you needed it to be! I like the chevron top, too! It’s very flattering!
You look awesome in these outfits!
    Hugs,
    Mary

I love the capris, they look great on you, keep them, they seem so versatile.

  13. Avatar

The white top is great! A wardrobe staple. The pants are cute but if you are trying to limit your wardrobe I say send them back. Not timeless enough. All else is cute but send back. 🙂

Oh I love the spring/summer colors you received! Just got my fix for May ( http://www.livegrowwrite.com/may-stitch-fix-review/ ) It was amazing too! Thank heavens for Stitch Fix!

  15. Avatar

Capris have a certain length requirement? If you want them shorter and casual, just roll up some cuffs. I think they’re beautiful and you should keep them. The color is definitely you (not sure if it will be “in” forever, if that matters to you or not). I like the chevron top too because when it’s hot that’s exactly what I want – airy and shapeless. If you want form fitting then try a belt with it. I does look so sheer that you need another layer underneath, and so that defeats the “for hot weather” situation in my book, but I hate the heat. I see that the blue tank is too big in the arms, but the casualness of it would still make a smaller version of it worthwhile in my wardrobe, in addition to your lacy one. I think not only do you look great in these clothes, but you’re making SF look great too. Pear shape, you? I don’t see it in these photos at all. Great fixes, then.

PS. What did you decide about last month’s berry colored keyhole dress that was too big? That’s another color you need to wear more often. It’s so lovely and makes you radiant.

    • Primally Inspired

I just love reading your feedback, Janet. I wait to hear your advice before I make my final decision the last few Fix’s – your feedback has been so valuable to me!

Sadly I sent back the berry colored dress. But I will keep my eyes open and make a request for that color! I do love that color!

      Thank you, Janet! <3 🙂

I basically loved all of the things you got! Definitely pinning some of these in hopes of getting some similar pieces for my next fix!

I love that blue shirt you’re sending back!!!

I also use Stitch Fix, but struggle with shirts/dresses being too big (I’m 5’2″ also) – are you getting petitie items or XS regular size? And, are there certain brands that you’ve found fit better? I haven’t kept many items I’ve gotten – not b/c my stylist isn’t sending things I like, but mainly b/c items are too big.

    Thanks!
    Lisa

    • Kelly from Primally Inspired

Lisa, I know what you mean! I just started getting petite XS and it’s made a big difference. Collective Concepts XS Petite is the perfect fit. I’ve had *mostly* good luck with Fun2Fun, Papermoon and Pixley XS, too. Skies are Blue, Daniel Rainn and 41Hawthorn tend to all be too big (although I’ve gotten some 41Hawthorn recently that actually did fit so they may have changed their sizing from before). In my most recent June fix, I got the best fitting dress from Andrew Marc Size 0. Whatever pants they’ve sent me fit like a glove, too. I think they’ve been size 25 with a shorter inseam (28″ if I remember right?). Hope that helps!

I’m petite as well. Can I ask your height & weight? It’s so hard to figure out if I want to pin things because I keep getting them when I do pin but I’m only trying to get things pinned that look good on people my size! Thx! I’m 5’2″ &118lbs.
